Today my family will come together to remember a man who I could only dream to aspire to be like. He was one of my idols from the time he started dating my aunt when I was a kid and he always will be as I grow old. I told him he meant as much to me as my father earlier this year. He was a gentleman. He was a smart man. He was a hardworking man. He put his family first and it spread to everyone. His influence was so profound. My kids loved him like a grandfather and they have been so sad to lose him. I looked last night at his children and their spouses and at my aunt, his wife. I was so happy they all know he loved them and that he knew they loved him. It doesn’t make it easier as we all suffer his passing, but we all were the better because of him. He influenced us all to be great people by being a great guy, by putting everyone else first, and by being patient when he took me golfing.
